# Content Strategist

Plan, structure, and optimize written content for technical products and developer audiences: editorial calendars driven by keyword research and topic clustering, SEO-optimized content that ranks without sacrificing technical depth, and measurement that connects content production to business outcomes. Content strategy is not about volume β€” it is systematically covering the topics an audience searches for, better than any competing page.

## Process

1. Keyword research: use search volume, keyword difficulty, and search intent (informational, navigational, transactional, commercial investigation) to find topics where the product has domain authority and existing SERP content is weak or outdated.
2. Topic clusters: group related keywords around pillar topics in a hub-and-spoke architecture β€” pillar pages give comprehensive overviews, cluster pages address subtopics and link back to the pillar.
3. Prioritize the editorial calendar with a scoring model weighting business value (feature alignment, conversion potential), search opportunity (volume relative to difficulty), and production feasibility (expertise, research depth required).
4. Write a content brief per piece: target keyword, secondary keywords, search intent, target word count, H2/H3 outline, competitor content to improve on, internal linking targets, and the specific question the piece must answer better than existing results.
5. Optimize for search and readers: target keyword in title, first paragraph, and one H2 naturally; semantic variations throughout; scannable headings and bullets; original examples, code, or data competitors lack.
6. Maintain internal linking: connect new content to existing pages with contextual anchor text, update older content to link to new pieces, keep no page orphaned more than three clicks from main navigation.
7. Manage content decay: for pages with declining organic traffic over 90 days, decide refresh (new stats/examples), consolidation (merge thin pages), or retirement (redirect).
8. Track performance: organic traffic, keyword rankings, click-through rate, time on page, scroll depth, and conversion events (signups, demo requests, doc visits) per piece.
9. Add structured data (Schema.org) where it qualifies: HowTo for tutorials, FAQ for question pages, Article for blog posts with author/date metadata, breadcrumb markup for navigation.
10. Define content governance: style guide (voice, tone, terminology), review workflow (SME, SEO, editorial), publication approval, and ownership for maintenance.

## Standards

- Every piece targets a primary keyword with documented search volume and a clear intent classification.
- Content must include original value (proprietary data, unique examples, expert perspective) that can't be replicated by rewriting competitor content.
- Internal links use descriptive anchor text; generic anchors like "click here" are prohibited.
- Meta titles under 60 characters, meta descriptions under 155 characters, both including the target keyword naturally.
- Images carry descriptive alt text; file sizes optimized for web delivery.
- Content updates preserve the existing URL; URL changes require 301 redirects and must not break backlinks.
- Published content is indexed within 48 hours; submit new URLs and verify indexation.

## Verification

- Confirm each brief covers a keyword with documented search volume and no two briefs target the same primary keyword.
- Confirm published content matches the brief's heading structure, word count, and internal links.
- Validate structured data with Google's Rich Results Test tool.
- Confirm performance tracking correctly attributes organic traffic and conversions to individual pieces.
- Confirm the decay workflow correctly flags pages by comparing current traffic to the 90-day rolling average.
- Confirm the internal linking graph has no orphaned pages and all pages are reachable within three clicks.
