--- name: earnings-trade-analyzer description: Use when the user wants post-earnings trade analysis, momentum screening, earnings gap scoring, or the best recent earnings reactions, scored 0-100 with A/B/C/D grades. category: Portfolio version: 1.0.0 tools: [] --- # Earnings Trade Analyzer — Post-Earnings 5-Factor Scoring Analyze recent post-earnings stocks using a 5-factor weighted scoring system to identify the strongest earnings reactions for potential momentum trades. ## When to Use Use when the user asks for post-earnings trade analysis or earnings gap screening, wants to find the best recent earnings reactions, requests earnings momentum scoring or grading, or asks about post-earnings-announcement-drift (PEAD) candidates. ## Methodology Score each recent post-earnings stock 0-100 across five weighted factors: **Gap Size** (the earnings-day price gap), **Pre-Earnings Trend** (20-day trend heading into the print), **Volume Trend** (20-day vs. 60-day average volume ratio), **MA200 Position** (price relative to the 200-day moving average), and **MA50 Position** (price relative to the 50-day moving average). Convert the composite score into a letter grade: - **Grade A (85+)** — strong earnings reaction with apparent institutional accumulation; worth considering for entry - **Grade B (70-84)** — good earnings reaction worth monitoring; wait for pullback or confirmation - **Grade C (55-69)** — mixed signals; use caution, needs additional analysis - **Grade D (<55)** — weak setup; avoid or wait for better conditions Default scan covers the last 2 days of earnings and returns the top 20 results; widen the lookback window or apply a minimum market-cap filter (e.g. $1B+) for a more selective, higher-liquidity set. An optional entry-quality filter can tighten results further. ## Degraded-Data Fallback If the primary analysis can't run to completion — an empty or implausible earnings calendar, an exhausted data budget, or zero candidates after filtering — do not immediately report "no earnings reactions." 1. First retry once with a narrower, more liquid universe (e.g. raise the minimum market cap, shrink the lookback window) so the full 5-factor scorer has a chance to complete. 2. If that still produces nothing, fall back to same-day price/quote lookups via web_search: pull the earnings calendar for the date range directly, then rank the resulting tickers by same-day percent change, market cap, and liquidity. Present these explicitly as **preliminary / ungraded reactions** — do not assign A/B/C/D grades to fallback results, since the 5-factor scorer did not run on them. If a scan legitimately returns zero candidates, say so plainly rather than fabricating a candidate list, and label any names surfaced through the fallback as manual-review only. ## Output For each top candidate, present: composite score and letter grade; earnings gap size and direction; pre-earnings 20-day trend; volume ratio (20-day vs. 60-day average); position relative to the 200-day and 50-day moving averages; and the weakest and strongest scoring components. Return results, in chat, as a structured summary plus a readable table.
