What you will accomplish

  • Create a private API key
  • Store it where your code can use it
  • Revoke a key you no longer trust

Before you start

  • A Syntic account
  1. Step 1: Open API Keys

Go to Settings → API Keys (app.syntic.ai/settings?tab=api-keys). There are two kinds of key: Private API Keys for server-side access, and Public API Keys for client-side SDK use.

  2. Step 2: Generate a private key

Under Private API Keys, click Generate Key. Give it a Name that says where it will be used (for example billing-service) and click Create Key.

  3. Step 3: Copy it now

The API Key Created dialog shows the key once. Click Copy and store it in your secrets manager or an environment variable. You won't be able to see it again. Private keys start with sk_live_.

    export SYNTIC_API_KEY="sk_live_..."
  4. Step 4: Revoke a key

If a key may have leaked, click Revoke key on its row and confirm with Revoke. Anything using it stops working immediately. To rotate, generate a new key, switch your code to it, then revoke the old one.

Tips

  • Never put a private key in browser or mobile code. Use it only on your server.

  • Public keys (pk_live_) can't call chat completions; the API rejects them with 403 public_key_rejected.
