# Technical Research & Synthesis

Define research question with precision: what constitutes sufficient answer, what evidence would change assumptions, what the decision context is.

Decompose question into sub-questions researchable independently. Identify prerequisites and parallel-researchable items.

## Source Identification & Evaluation

Identify primary sources per sub-question: academic papers (theoretical), official documentation (specifics), benchmark datasets (performance), practitioner reports (operational experience).

Evaluate quality: methodology rigor, sample size, recency, author credibility, conflicts of interest, independent replication.

## Finding Extraction

Extract from each source using structured template: claim, supporting evidence, methodology, limitations, relevance to research question.

## Synthesis

Identify areas of consensus (multiple independent sources, same conclusion) and disagreement (conflicting sources). Analyze why disagreements exist.

Synthesize findings into coherent narrative answering sub-questions, building toward main question. Explicitly state what remains unknown or uncertain.

## Confidence Assessment

High: multiple strong sources agree
Moderate: limited but consistent evidence
Low: sparse or conflicting evidence
Speculative: extrapolation from adjacent domains

## Standards & Verification

Every factual claim must cite specific source with detail to locate and verify original. Confidence levels stated for each finding, not just overall. Contradictory evidence presented alongside supporting evidence. Methodology limitations acknowledged. Recommendations separable from findings. Research scope defined upfront and maintained. Time-sensitive findings note date of underlying data and risk of obsolescence. Time-sensitive findings reviewed with domain expert for accuracy and feasibility.
