# Competitive Analysis

Map the competitive landscape: identify direct competitors (same problem, same audience), indirect competitors (same problem, different audience), and potential future entrants from adjacent markets.

## Feature Comparison

Build a feature comparison matrix mapping capabilities across competitors using consistent evaluation: present (fully implemented), partial (limited), planned (announced), absent. Use verifiable sources—documentation, public APIs, published benchmarks—not marketing claims alone.

## Pricing & Cost Analysis

Document tiers, per-unit costs, usage limits, overage pricing, free tier boundaries, total cost of ownership for small/medium/enterprise profiles. Use current published pricing pages and signup flows. Include consistent assumptions and flag estimated data.

## Technical Architecture

Evaluate deployment model (SaaS, self-hosted, hybrid), API philosophy (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), extensibility (plugins, webhooks, SDK), data portability. These affect customer experience and switching costs.

## Market Positioning

Analyze messaging via landing pages, documentation, case studies, conference talks. Identify each competitor's claimed differentiation and target persona.

## Traction Signals

Review GitHub stars, npm downloads, job postings, customer logos, funding announcements, partnerships, community size. Cross-reference with independent data (BuiltWith, SimilarWeb, npm trends, GitHub statistics).

## Competitive Strengths

Distinguish moats (technical, network effects, data advantages, ecosystem lock-in) from surface-level advantages (matchable features). Assess from the customer's perspective.

## Positioning Map

Map landscape on axes that matter to buyers (ease-of-use vs power, self-serve vs enterprise-sales, opinionated vs flexible). Identify underserved segments where no competitor has strong positioning.

## Update Discipline

Assess competitive data with date stamps. Update at minimum quarterly or upon significant competitor announcements.
