Syntic

Skills

Teach Syntic how your organization works.

Skills are packaged expertise that tell Syntic how to do specialized work — to your standards, in your format, using your procedures. Not generic AI output. Your output. A DCF model built to your firm's template. A clinical note written to your specialty's format. A board deck that looks like your CEO wrote it. Build a Skill once and it runs everywhere: the assistant, the CLI, the desktop app, and the API.

What's a Skill?

A playbook Syntic actually follows.

A Skill is a folder of instructions and resources that teaches Syntic how to do a specific kind of work — properly, to your standards, the same way every time.

Concretely, a Skill includes the prompts, the worked examples, the templates, the data formats, the citation styles, the guardrails, and the review steps for a specific task. When Syntic has the right Skill loaded, it stops producing generic output and starts following the playbook your organization actually uses.

Without a Skill

Syntic gives you a generic answer.

With a Skill

Syntic gives you the answer your senior person would give.

Why teams use Skills

Your expertise, made repeatable.

Capture what your organisation knows. Get consistent output on specialised work. Run the same expertise everywhere Syntic runs.

Capture what your organization knows

Your senior people have decades of knowledge in their heads — and most of it lives nowhere else. Skills let you package that expertise: your reporting templates, your approval workflows, your industry conventions, your house style. Every team member gets the same expert output. New hires work like your best people from day one. The knowledge that used to leave when people left stays in your organisation.

Get consistent results on specialized tasks

General AI is good at generic work. Skills are how Syntic gets good at your work. A clinical note follows your specialty's template. A board deck follows your CEO's preferred format. A financial model follows your firm's conventions. The output reads like your organisation wrote it — because the Skill taught Syntic exactly how your organisation works.

Build once, use everywhere

The same Skill runs across every Syntic surface — the assistant on syntic.ai, the Syntic Code CLI, the Syntic Code Desktop app, and the API. Build a Skill once. Use it from your terminal at 9am, from the assistant in a meeting at 3pm, and programmatically through the API in the workflow you built last quarter. Same expertise, same output, everywhere.

Four types of Skills

From built-in to completely bespoke.

Start with what's already in the marketplace. Add industry Skills built by domain experts. Then package what makes your organisation unique.

Built-in Skills

Syntic ships with hundreds of built-in Skills for the work every team does: creating Excel models with working formulas, building PowerPoint decks with your branding, analysing data, converting between formats, and drafting documents to standard templates. Available immediately, no configuration required.

Industry Skills

Curated Skills built by domain experts and Syntic partners: DCF modeling and comparable-company analysis for finance, clinical documentation and prior auth for healthcare, security audit and threat modeling for engineering, grant writing and impact reporting for nonprofits.

Company-specific Skills

Package your organization's knowledge. Brand guidelines, approval workflows, and industry-specific playbooks. Your senior people's expertise, captured once and available to everyone. Skills can be private to your organization or shared internally with your team.

Personal Skills

Build Skills for how you personally work. A custom note-taking system. A research methodology. A code review checklist. The way you like things done, taught to Syntic once.

Skills work everywhere Syntic runs

Same expertise, every surface.

Build a Skill once. It runs in the assistant, in the CLI, in the desktop app, and through the API — the right one loading automatically when you need it.

In Syntic Chat

Skills appear when relevant. Ask Syntic to write a board update and the company-newsletter Skill activates automatically. Ask it to model a DCF and the finance Skill loads. No manual selection, no prompt engineering. The right expertise loads for the task at hand.

In Syntic Code (CLI and Desktop)

Skills extend Syntic Code's capabilities in the CLI and the Desktop app. Install a Skill for migrating Terraform from AWS to GCP. Install another for writing TypeScript in your team's specific style. Install another for your internal code review standards. The agent picks the right Skill for each step of a multi-step task automatically.

In the Syntic API

Skills are available programmatically. Pass them as part of the API call. The same packaged expertise, available in any application or workflow you build on top of Syntic.

Compose Skills into workflows

Most real work isn't one Skill — it's a sequence. A board-meeting prep workflow stacks the company-research Skill, the financial-modelling Skill, the deck-building Skill, and the executive-summary Skill into one flow. Syntic picks the right Skill for each step automatically. No manual selection, no workflow engineering. The work gets done the way your organisation actually does it.

Build your own Skill

Skills are folders. That's the whole format.

A SKILL.md file with Markdown instructions, plus any supporting files Syntic needs — templates, examples, reference data, code modules. That's it. No proprietary format, no visual builder required, no vendor lock-in.

In Syntic Studio

Describe what you want. Syntic generates the folder structure, scaffolds the SKILL.md, and bundles the resources. Edit, refine, and publish to your team or the public marketplace.

For developers: write it yourself

Skills are folders with a SKILL.md in Markdown. Add reference files, scripts, code modules, and schemas. Full control, versioned in Git, deployable to your team or submitted to the public marketplace. Read the developer docs for the full specification.

Skills across every function
